Windows 3.1/3.11 works in enhanced mode on my Ryzen 3900x 3.8Ghz/
X470 motherboard /32GB RAM/2070 Super + Voodoo 3 PCI + VIA 6421 PCI - SATA (special addition for Windows 3.x)
Tested also on i5 Haswell/H81 -required SATA to be set as IDE for enhanced mode, booted with networking in ehanced
Worked fine on HP workstation Z220 with i7-3770/C216 - in AHCI mode/enhanced, with gigabit networking.
On my Ryzen 3900/x470 I can make it work under 5 minutes with no additional hardware - but only in standard mode.
Enhanced mode took a lot of testing to make it work:
1) on this board won t start in enhanced unless I have DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /
M:1 /CPUCLOCK:OFF /V /testmem:off - other machine types will cause a freeze after splash screen
2) on this particular board Windows 3.11 won t start in enhanced with on board AHCI. I had to add a PCI -SATA adapter which solved the problem.
3) also, on this board Windows 3.11 will hang with networking enabled. To get TCP/IP working I used Trumpet Winsock.
All these screen shots were taken while running on Ryzen:
