Be careful if you're contributing to a DOS-like operating system development: don't reuse these source codes to avoid legal issues Instead, here's a more usable thing: the source code of OpenDOS 7.01 base (cf. first message) |

Maybe is it possible to compile it for a Mac 68K or PPC ?

No. I didn't read the source code, I am absolutely sure it's anything but portable. Because all DOS-like operating systems heavily rely on BIOS, which is specifically designed for x86 architecture. The BIOS, an old technology from the early 1980s, is increasingly seen as a problem. Anyone who has used GRUB, or Openboot on Sun stations, will understand what I mean

Indeed, nowadays, BIOS tends to be a bottleneck. Fortunately, Intel announced the release of its successor in the future.

Just a question: how to compile these source codes?

Compilers are apparently included. However, like JorgePereira noticed, the archives are incomplete (e.g. some headers are missing) P.S. Ouch, the fdisk code is terrible

Microsoft officially made source code of DOS 1.1, DOS 2.0 and Word for Windows 1.1a publicly available (see Microsoft Blog).

Microsoft has republished the source code of MS-DOS 1.1 and 2.0 on September 22, 2018 on GitHub under a more permissive license (MIT). This event comes a few months after the release of source code of the famous file explorer Winfile in April under a free software license (MIT again). Could this be the sign of the beginning of the release of the source code of the old historical software by Microsoft? This would be great for the retro-computing community and for various open-source projects (like FreeDOS).
