Syquest was created in 1982 by one of Seagate's founder and they started by doing hard drives in cartridges of 5mb in size. The technology had some success and was used for backups, move a lot of data at once or even change your operating system fast and easy. In the late 90's, Iomega ZIPs, CD-R and flash memory starting to hit the shelves, the HDD in a cartridge was getting old and unpractical. In a last effort, Syquest brought a couple of last drives like the Syjet, the SparQ and the Quest drive without success. In 1998, Syquest went bankrupt and the technology was pretty much putted to a halt (Iomega tried and also failed with it's JAZ drives).![[fr]](./ext/win3x/customcode/images/fr.gif){kind=small}
Syquest fut créé 1982 par un des fondateur de la compagnie Seagate. La compagnie débuta son activité avec des disques durs en cartouches de 5 mo. La technologie connut un succès relatif et fut utilisée par beaucoup comme moyen de sauvegarde, pour transporter beaucoup de données ou pour facilement changer de système d'exploitation. Vers la fin des années 90, avec l'arrivée chez le consommateur des CD-R, des lecteurs haute capacité comme les ZIP et les mémoires flash qui commençaient à poindre pour le publique, la technologie devenait de plus en plus désuète. Dans un dernier effort, Syquest lança une dernière gamme, les Syjet, les SparQ et les Quest drive, mais en vain. La compagnie fit faillite en fin 1998 ; leur technologie aura couvert de 5mo à 4,7go de stockage au cour de ses 16 ans d'existence.Photos
