Samna Ami is a graphic text editor. It's possibly the first text editor ever intended for Windows users. Samna was acquired by Lotus, thus became Lotus Ami Pro and later Lotus Word Pro. Samna Ami includes eight fonts (Courier, Helv, Modern, Roman, Script, System, Terminal et Tms Rmn) and eight colors (or rather six if we exclude black and white). The font sizes vary depending on polices (from 6 to 99). The text alignment could be defined (left, center, right and justify). You can also create your own style by setting the fonts, sizes, colors, other available custom parameters and you can even choose between five display modes. At the top-right, there is a small windows to make bulleted lists, etc.

Samna Ami est un traitement de texte graphique. Il aurait été le premier traitement de texte pour Windows sur le marché. Samna a été racheté par Lotus, devenant ainsi Lotus Ami Pro puis Lotus Word Pro. Samna Ami contient huit polices de caractères parmi lesquels Courier, Helv, Modern, Roman, Script, System, Terminal et Tms Rmn ainsi qu'un jeu de huit couleurs (six si l'on exclut les noir et blanc). Les tailles de polices varient selon les polices (elles vont de 6 à 99). L'alignement de l'écriture peut aussi être choisi (gauche, centre, droite et justifié). Vous pouvez aussi créer votre style en attribuant les polices, tailles, couleurs, d'autres personnalisations disponibles et vous pouvez choisir entre cinq modes de vue. En haut à droite, il y a une petite fenêtre pour créer des listes a puces, etc.

Bien qu'il soit difficile à confirmer, il est tout à fait possible que Samna Ami (1.0?) soit le premier traitement de texte tirant parti de l'interface Windows.

Le copyright de la version 1.2b que nous avons ici mentionne les années 1988-1990. Or, Microsoft Word 1.0 pour Windows n'est apparu qu'en 1989.

Windows 2.03 est sorti en décembre 1987 (Windows/386 2.01 étant sorti trois mois auparavant pour quelques ordinateurs Compaq)
