Both the Win16 and Win32 variants of IE4 can display UTF-8 characters on webpages.

Sadly, IE4 - and the so-called IE5 - for Windows 3.1x and NT 3.51 CANNOT send UTF-8 strings.

Worse, even if there is no accented character, you may get blank page while attempting to post.

Therefore, even sending a message fully written in English (ASCII characters) may cause trouble.

I gave up to solve that infamous issue a long time ago... AFAIK, all Win16 browsers are affected.

On Windows 95 or NT 4.0, you get the UTF-8 issue with IE3 or older but IE4+ completely fixed it.

Yes, that's exactly what was happening to me. With WebOne, everything is fine as long as I don't use any accented characters. I haven't tested without WebOne for a while…

The blank page bug randomly occurs. Sometimes you can send a message with Win16 IE, sometimes not. As long as you don't use any accented character! If you send a text with such character, the failure rate is 100%, but that doesn't mean you get blank page all the times. You may return to the editor page with the error about number of characters, as if you attempted to send an empty message.

My guess is the problem is due to a buggy or limited POST request feature (do not be confused with GET request, used to load a new page from a link).

Not sure to understand how WebOne could improve the outcome with IE4 on Windows 3.1 :uh:.

But, you haven't add the function to convert iso 8859 1 to UTF8 🤔🤔🤔

With that I successfully post here from Arachne and a message containing accented characters

WebOne is a proxy that convert most part of a website. Typically, ist possible to load modern pages on any web browser that supports proxy. It's, f.i., possible to load YouTube on ie3 but, it's still horrible to navigate because of limitations of the rendering engine (instead of lack of HTTPS/certificates etc etc)

Joet,

I lost your email address.

Could you send an email to me ?

This time I promise to save it in a safe place. ;)
