I have an old Gateway 2000 system with an 83mhz Pentium Overdrive, 64mb ram, a PCI Mach64 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11. I installed Internet Explorer 5 not too long ago and noticed something strange. The Internet Explorer controls in control panel utilize ctrl3d.dll for a 3d appearance. However, if I open that control and close it, then until I exit control panel, all the other control dialogs as well as the about box have a 3D appearance; it actually looks pretty nice. I'll take some screen shots later tonight.

That might be because control panels are actually libraries loaded dynamically by the same instance of control.exe. Once the ctl3d library is hooked, it will hijack the drawing of all dialog boxes of that process.

Interesting find. :)
